At just 18 years old, Shelby's journey is nothing short of remarkable, embodying resilience, determination, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference.
Despite having Down Syndrome, Shelby has never let it hinder her ambitions. From her days in mainstream school to her current pursuits at a performing arts college, she has continuously defied expectations and shattered stereotypes. Her advocacy efforts and fundraising initiatives have left a lasting impact, raising over £5000 for both national and local Down Syndrome charities.
In August 2022, Shelby was selected as one of 11 young people for the "Don't Put me Down" campaign, reaching national recognition with her powerful message of inclusion. She's been featured on various media platforms, including Sky Sports and BBC Radio York, amplifying her voice for acceptance and understanding.
Shelby's dedication to her studies and advocacy has been recognised, winning the Association of Colleges Young Student of the Year award in November 2023. Currently, she balances her studies with a paid job, showcasing her remarkable resilience and determination.
