The Yorkshire Choice Awards is thrilled to announce that Vicki Gilbert, a remarkable individual whose journey is nothing short of awe-inspiring, will be joining us on stage as a guest award presenter in June.
As a mother of three, Vicki has faced life's challenges with courage, resilience, and an unwavering determination to make a difference. At 19, she was wrongly diagnosed with bone cancer while studying to be a PE teacher. Despite this adversity, she persevered, earning her degree and embarking on a teaching career. Specialising in adaptive physical activity and teacher training, Vicki has made a profound impact on countless students' lives, lecturing in Further Education and Higher Education, and training apprentice teaching assistants and Early Years Educators.
Additionally, Vicki owns her own business teaching sign language in early years settings, showcasing her commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Her dedication extends beyond her profession; as a group scout leader, she inspires young minds to push their limits. Vicki's achievements as a 2-time Channel relay swimmer and marathon swimmer in recent years highlight her determination.
Furthermore, Vicki has fundraised for various charities, including ASPIRE, Martin House, and Changing Stars Malawi. Despite facing her own health battles, including breast cancer in 2017, Vicki has continued to persevere and thrive, exemplifying resilience. In 2019, she was honoured as the Yorkshire Choice Awards winner of the Kate Granger Award, recognising her commitment to making a positive impact.
As Vicki Gilbert graces the stage at The Yorkshire Choice Awards 2024, we celebrate her indomitable spirit, inspiring journey, and unwavering dedication to making a difference. Her presence serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring us all to overcome life's obstacles and strive for greatness.
